Summer is the season of passion. Nature receives the blazing sunlight, and at times the pouring rain, with its whole body, and radiates heat and energy. Welter Experiment Hiking Club gladly placed itself in the very middle of summer. By reducing the weight to the maximum, giving lightness to the body, leaving behind all cumbersome equipment, we headed to Gangwon-do. In this season when body and mind become loose, the new excitement is quite a long time coming.

Brisa Raglan Long Sleeves T-shirt / Sky Blue / Size 4

Summer hiking is above all a battle against the heat.
The biggest concern before setting out on a hike is the choice of material.

Under the blazing sun and while walking through the forest, the material goes beyond function to serve as protection for the body.

In other words, it is no exaggeration to say that function replaces everything.

The Brisa Raglan T-shirt worn by the hiking club this time used Aero Cool yarn,
providing a real opportunity to experience its excellent moisture absorption and quick-drying performance.

With just the right elasticity and a silhouette designed with the body’s movements in mind,
it proved to be a smart item that performs brilliantly for summer hiking and even valley trekking.

Breathable Half Sleeve Pullover / Light Gray / Size 1

It nicely solved the common “sweat mark” problem often worried about during summer hiking.

Even though it was in a gray tone, traces of sweat were hardly visible, so there was little visual burden,
and it was comfortable to wear even when sweating a lot.

In particular, the small pocket on the chest was practical for keeping frequently used items like lip balm,
and it was quite useful when carrying only simple belongings, such as during hiking or running.

Baegusan in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, stands at 895 meters above sea level, yet it has an interesting terrain of gentle ridges that rise and fall.
However, as you walk, you begin to feel the true depth typical of Gangwon-do’s mountains.
Passing through long stretches of dense trees, you may often come across countless wildflowers and mushrooms.
Starting from Gajokgogae (Gajok Pass), the actual hike was only about 300 meters,
but with the blazing sun at our backs, the walk consumed more energy than expected,
so we decided not to push ourselves too hard.

On a hike that feels like showering the whole body in sweat, it is important to replenish water from time to time. Chatting about trivial things with the crew helps momentarily blow away the heaviness of the scorching heat. Thanks to the occasional breeze, the beads of sweat forming on the forehead even feel refreshing. Even while focusing on walking, such moments become a kind of “alarm from nature,” telling us to pause and enjoy a bit of leisure.

Breevo Lightweight Reflection Cap / Black / Free

Personally, I am fond of hats, so they are always one of the items I take with me on a hike.
Without one, something feels missing, and it provides satisfaction both in functionality and in style.

When wearing a cap for hiking, I prefer a synthetic nylon cap rather than a regular casual cap.
With its light feel and sun-blocking function, it was a perfect item for light hiking.

Coming down from the trail of Baegusan and continuing onto the Yongso Valley forest path, moss-covered stones and rocks stand out along the way. The reason these signs felt especially welcome was that they indicated the beginning of a stream. Located to the north, Yongso Valley — the source of the Hongcheon River — stretches about 10 kilometers, featuring a small natural pool of about 200 pyeong and a larger one of about 500 pyeong. If you prefer a light forest walk rather than a strenuous mountain trail, this place is highly recommended. Moreover, azaleas in spring and autumn foliage make the scenery truly spectacular.

Hike Reflective Stitch Pants / Black / Size 2

Made of functional nylon fabric, it had excellent elasticity, allowing me to stretch my legs without any discomfort even on steep uphill sections.

Above all, the thin material quickly dried sweat, keeping me comfortable without sticking throughout the hike.

Even for me, who usually insists on wearing shorts because I easily feel the heat, these pants were an exception.

Although long pants, they were cool and light, preventing sunburn while also offering good ventilation, making them suitable for both running and hiking.

For those who prefer long pants even in summer, this is a product I can recommend without hesitation.

Attabad Hike Shorts / Light Gray / Size 3

This product is one that I often wear during hikes,
and the more I use it, the more satisfied I become with it.

Thanks to its lightweight nylon material, it feels very light to wear and offers excellent mobility,
allowing free and comfortable movement even on uphill or rocky sections.

It causes no discomfort even after wearing it for long periods,
making it a piece of clothing I often reach for.

Along the winding forest path, bizarre rock formations lined the way, making me feel the greatness of nature’s time. The Yongso Valley forest trail, made up of rocks and cliffs, was relatively easy to walk, but I had heard that falling rocks occur from time to time, so I walked with more caution. The sound of cicadas crying in full force through the summer and the refreshing sound of flowing water felt even more welcoming. Though my whole body was already drenched in sweat, my heart had already surrendered itself to the cool valley.

Anemoi Light Windbreaker / Sky Blue / Size 3

The 2.5-layer water-resistant outerwear was very lightweight despite its waterproof function,
making it a good choice to wear as sun protection on days with strong UV rays.

The sky-blue color felt cool and refreshing, perfectly matching the hot weather,
and visually gave a bright and fresh impression.

Ventura 6P Lightweight Cap / Navy / Free

In summer hiking, a hat is not a choice but a necessity.

Under direct sunlight, securing clear vision, maintaining body temperature, and ensuring comfort even during long wear are important.

The VENTURA 6P LIGHTWEIGHT CAP is a 5-panel camp cap with excellent lightness and breathability,
and its rear strap allows for an adjustable fit.

The reflective details provide visibility even in the forest or at dusk.

It is a reliable item that satisfies both functionality and style.

Walking through the forest under the shade of trees, I gazed down at the valley stream stretching below.
The sound of water striking rocks and stones helped me forget the sweltering summer heat.

Now it was time to set everything down and face the valley.

As poet James Russell Lowell once said, “Nature is what soothes our hearts and inspires us.”
Looking at the crew’s innocent expressions, I found myself forgetting all the difficult times I had carried until now.

I slowly cooled down the heat of summer within my body and took a long rest. Lying on a wide rock, I sometimes drifted into a sweet nap, and at other times captured the scenery in photos. I think I will remember the joyful moments here, when we chatted like children. Perhaps the reason we return to nature is because we realize its value only when we step away from it.
